Hi, I’m Shannon!
I’m excited about the chance to work with you. I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado Boulder in Civil Engineering. After working in the engineering field, becoming a mom, and participating in activities that empower youth, I’ve learned that I really enjoy working with children.
Since being employed in the engineering field, I’ve worked and volunteered in positions that allowed me to invest in the lives of the upcoming generations. For six years, I was a homeschooling parent. In the public school setting, I volunteered to work with individual students to help meet their needs on Advanced Learning Plans (ALP), as well as Individualized Education Plans (IEP). I’ve been a science fair judge who provided constructive and encouraging feedback to those who were likely to have the best project and to those who were still developing their skills. I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed being a coach for an award-winning Odyssey of the Mind team. Most recently, in the professional world, I’ve worked as a vision therapist who created individualized plans for patients, including children.
Throughout all of my adventures, I’ve been a tutor in one capacity or another. I’ve helped my children, their friends, and neighbors in math and science. Seeing the moment when a student understands a concept is very rewarding to me. Whatever activity my children are involved in is one of the first places I volunteer. I am a mother of a college student and a high school student. When I’m not tutoring, I enjoy hiking, reading, spending time with my family, playing board games, and working in my yard. I’m excited to talk with you and see how I can be a help to your student.
